I have
recently been advised of some misunderstanding of the rules and eligibility of
AMA members being allowed to race in AMA Sanctioned events. The following is straight out of the
AMA Rulebook and the rules as to how they should be enforced. I will now
do my best to clarify this as to how it should be enforced.
If a rider has
a district card from his home district and goes to another district to race and
does not wish to receive points he does NOT have to buy another district card
from where the event is located. If a rider can prove that he is from a
district where no cards are issued he does NOT have to have a card to race in
the district if he wished not to receive points. If an AMA member wishes
to race in a series event such as the ABC series and does not wish to have year
end points he is NOT required to buy the ABC series card. What is
required is that he has an AMA membership. If it is a district race he needs
an AMA membership and a district card, if required from his home
district. If he is from a district that requires cards and he can not
produce one then you can charge him for a district card.
This has been
how the AMA home office has been enforcing it since I have been with the
company. This is how we will be as well as I have clarified this with
both legal and the President. If this has been done differently in the
past then it was done incorrectly and needs to be enforced this way from this
point forward. AMA Competition is open to all Full AMA members and ATVA
Competition members in good standing with the AMA.
CHAPTER
2 RIDERS AND ELIGIBILITY
Special Note: The American Motorcyclist Association does not
test
the skill of individual participants in AMA-sanctioned
events,
nor does the Association license amateur competitors
or
judge rider competence. Participants are solely responsible
for
their safety.
*A.
General
1. All
riders, including Sidecar and Buddy seat passengers, in AMA/ATVA sanctioned
competition are required to be members
of the
AMA and/or ATVA Competition Members (AMA associate members may not participate
in AMA-sanctioned off-road competition) and their respective recognized
district organization (if it so requires). If an AMA District membership in a
riders home district is not required, a rider competing outside his home
district shall not be required to purchase another districts membership card
unless he desires to have his points kept and be eligible for year-end awards in
that district.
